Domaine Le Frêche, a small estate in Bas-Armagnac
Domaine Le Frêche is a small estate of around 2 hectares in the heart of Bas-Armagnac. Its tawny-sand terroir is one of the most sought-after in the region for the finesse of the brandies it produces.
Here, the Baco grape takes centre stage. This hybrid variety, typical of Armagnac, produces fragrant brandies with roundness, freshness and an often powerful, spicy character. It shows particularly well after long ageing in oak casks.
The 2006 vintage perfectly illustrates this style: an intense, structured and indulgent Armagnac that L’Encantada chose to let express itself at its natural strength.
Domaine Le Frêche 2006 tasting notes
Nose: deep and refined, with toasted oak, vanilla and sweet spices. Notes of dried fruit and dark fruit add extra richness.
Palate: powerful and structured, with lovely breadth. The Baco shows through spices, oak, caramel and ripe fruit, with a light roasted touch.
Finish: long and assertive, lingering on spices, toasted oak and dried fruit.
How to enjoy this cask-strength Armagnac?
At 57.2% ABV, Domaine Le Frêche 2006 is best enjoyed slowly, at room temperature, in a tulip glass. Let it breathe for a few minutes, then add a few drops of water if you like: the dark fruit and vanilla notes will then fully open up.
It pairs wonderfully with intense dark chocolate, a coffee dessert or a tasting moment by the fire.
Why choose a cask-strength Armagnac?
A cask-strength Armagnac is bottled straight from the barrel, with no water added to lower its strength. It therefore keeps all the aromatic intensity gained over its years of ageing. It is the most faithful way to discover the work of an estate and the influence of its cellar.
Domaine Le Frêche 2006 is a fine example: at 57.2% ABV, it expresses the full power of Baco, with a dense texture and great length on the palate. No caramel colouring or oak additives have been used: its colour and aromas come solely from the time spent in oak casks.
These bottles come from a single cask, in very limited quantities. Once sold out, this vintage will no longer be available: a chance to discover a rare small estate from Bas-Armagnac.
