Domaine Lous Mouracs 1986

107,20

It was a small estate that produced Baco, Colombard, and Ugni blanc, but it is no longer in production. It was located in a wetland area, hence its Gascon name Lous Mouracs, meaning “the wetlands”.

Here is a convincing, pleasant, and balanced Armagnac from the Ténarèze region. Lous Mouracs 1986 #28

Description

The 1986 vintage armagnac from Domaine Lous Mouracs, bottled as a brut de fut by L’Encantada, is an exceptional eau-de-vie from the Gers terroir, aged 39 years in Gascon oak casks.

The Domaine Lous Mouracs is one of the carefully selected estates in our portfolio, renowned for the quality of its brandies. This 1986 vintage, crafted from Folle Blanche, faithfully expresses the character of the Bas-Armagnac terroir through traditional continuous still distillation.

Tasting notes: Mahogany robe with amber highlights. Complex nose of dried fruits, honey, beeswax and elegant wood notes. Rich and velvety palate with flavours of coffee, chocolate, tobacco and a classic rancio. Long, spiced finish.

Serving suggestion: Best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a tulip glass to reveal its full aromatic palette. Ideal as a digestif, paired with dark chocolate, dried fruits or a quality cigar.

Limited stock. Buy this 1986 vintage armagnac directly from L’Encantada, artisan producer in Vic-Fezensac, Gers, Gascony. Delivery across France & Europe.

Tasting note

Nose

A typical Armagnac nose with dried fruit (prunes, raisins), light oak, walnut, and caramel. The whole is harmonious and balanced.

Palate

The fruitiness on the nose is more intense than on the palate. The apples and pears are rather macerated in brandy, but they give way to the woodiness, which brings a distinct bitterness to the finish. At times, almonds creep into the tasting, accompanied by a touch of sweetness as on the nose.

Overall

Long, accomplished. Finely chocolaty, it is also rancid (cherry brandy, apricot liqueur). It evokes the harvesters’ baskets filled with golden bunches of the folle blanche grape variety. Retro olfaction oscillates between prune, vanilla and dark chocolate. The empty glass is roasted (tobacco, coffee).
