Description

The 1996 vintage armagnac from Domaine Lous Pibous, bottled as a brut de fut by L’Encantada, is a rare and exceptional Gascon spirit aged 29 years in oak casks.

Crafted by traditional continuous still distillation from Folle Blanche, Colombard, this 1996 vintage from the Domaine Lous Pibous expresses all the depth and character of the Bas-Armagnac terroir. Bottled uncut and unfiltered straight from the cask.

Tasting notes: Golden amber robe. Generous nose of peach, honey, dried flowers and harmonious wood. Round and fleshy palate, with notes of candied fruits, gentle spice and vanilla. Persistent, elegant finish.

Serving: Best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a tulip glass. Perfect digestif or special occasion spirit.

Tasting note

Nose

Rich and complex. With notes of prune, dried apricot, candied orange, beeswax, new oak and saffron, the first nose is exceptionally fine. It evolves on salted butter caramel and heady flowers (peony, hyacinth). With freshness, its balsamic (cedar) and medicinal (balsam) character gradually takes shape.

Palate

Concentrated, racy. The attack on the palate is airy and floral (lilac, lily of the valley). Noble spices (cardamom, nutmeg) quickly take over. The mid-palate is strongly marked by concrete iris and fresh ginger. The same flowers make a second appearance. Gradually, different honeys coat the taste buds without ever weighing down the mouth. Gorgeous.

Overall

Long, accomplished. Finely chocolaty, it is also rancid (cherry brandy, apricot liqueur). It evokes the harvesters’ baskets filled with golden bunches of the folle blanche grape variety. Retro olfaction oscillates between prune, vanilla and dark chocolate. The empty glass is roasted (tobacco, coffee).
