Domaine Mamoulens 1993: a rare Armagnac from Ténarèze
Domaine Mamoulens 1993 is part of our Silent Domains collection, dedicated to Armagnacs from estates that no longer produce. These brandies, now rare, are the last witnesses of a traditional production that we were lucky enough to select and bottle.
Cask #10 was bottled at cask strength, at 50.4% ABV, with no reduction and no chill filtration. An authentic vintage Armagnac for enthusiasts looking for character and history.
Domaine Mamoulens, a former estate in Ténarèze
Domaine Mamoulens is a former estate located in Ténarèze, one of the three Armagnac appellations, renowned for its clay-limestone soils and its long-ageing brandies, both structured and aromatic.
Its Armagnacs were distilled from two emblematic grape varieties of the region: Colombard, which brings freshness and fruity notes, and Ugni Blanc, which offers finesse and great ageing potential.
After distillation, the brandies benefited from long ageing in a damp cellar. This type of cellar encourages slow evaporation of the alcohol and gives round, supple Armagnacs of great aromatic complexity. It is this profile that convinced L’Encantada to select this 1993 vintage.
Domaine Mamoulens 1993 tasting notes
Nose: indulgent and generous, with brioche, ripe yellow fruit, caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, with a touch of blond tobacco.
Palate: full and warming, marked by dried fruit, toasted notes, almond, hazelnut, nutmeg and elegant oak.
Finish: long and persistent, with sweet spices, dried fruit and roasted notes.
How to enjoy this vintage Armagnac?
Serve Domaine Mamoulens 1993 at room temperature in a tulip glass. Let it breathe for a few minutes: aeration gradually reveals the brioche and dried fruit aromas. A few drops of water can also open up the bouquet, which suits its cask strength perfectly.
It is ideal for an after-dinner tasting, with a dried-fruit dessert, dark chocolate or a good cigar.
Why choose a cask-strength Armagnac?
A cask-strength Armagnac is bottled straight from the barrel, with no water added to lower its strength. It therefore keeps all the aromatic intensity gained over its years of ageing. It is the most faithful way to discover the work of an estate and the influence of its cellar.
Domaine Mamoulens 1993 is a fine example: at 50.4% ABV, it remains surprisingly approachable, round and indulgent, while offering great length on the palate. No caramel colouring or oak additives have been used: its amber colour and aromas come solely from the time spent in oak casks.
These bottles come from a single cask, in very limited quantities. Once sold out, this vintage will no longer be available: a chance to own a unique piece of Ténarèze history.
