The 1972 vintage armagnac from Domaine Le Frêche, bottled as a brut de fut by L’Encantada, is a rare and exceptional Gascon spirit aged 53 years in oak casks.

Crafted by traditional continuous still distillation from Folle Blanche, this 1972 vintage from the Domaine Le Frêche expresses all the depth and character of the Bas-Armagnac terroir. Bottled uncut and unfiltered straight from the cask.

Tasting notes: Intense mahogany robe with amber highlights. Extraordinarily complex nose — precious wood, truffle, aged orange blossom and deep rancio. Sumptuous palate, with exceptional density and length.

Serving: Best enjoyed neat at room temperature in a tulip glass. Perfect digestif or special occasion spirit. A collector’s bottle. Over 50 years of ageing.

Tasting note

Nose

Acid gummy colas, freeze-dried pineapple rings, black licorice, hazelnut butter, Chinese 5-spice, cumin, cooked pears with cloves, caramelized brown onions, topped with Gruyère shavings.

Palate

A bright, warm explosion of panela (a blend of black sugar and molasses), hazelnut and marzipan. Then, on tiptoe, a fruity flavor… prune juice, and a hint of acidity reminiscent of a good-level tonic. Tart but not too bitter, the result is very pleasant. Then come the raw almonds. The alcohol on the palate isn’t overpowering, but leaves plenty of room for a rainbow of flavors.

Overall

Lovely length on the palate. Woody notes, pepper, tobacco, cinnamon, caramel and citrus. An armagnac for those who like their spirits a little stronger, like Rhums Caroni or Rhum Demerara.
